What to expect during the intake process
Admission and Assessment
Upon admission JSAS HealthCare staff conducts a comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment to identify the appropriate treatment plan for each individual.
Patients meet with a trained addiction counselor, nurse, HIV specialist and a physician. During this process, a physical and biopsychosocial assessment are completed to determine if Medications for Opioid Use Disorder Treatment is right for a person and which medication is right for the person.
All patients must bring two forms of identification, one of which must be a picture ID.

Methadone Intake Hours
- Monday - Friday from 6:00 am – 8:00 am.
No appointment necessary. - Daily intakes are limited so please arrive by 5:30 am.
- The intake process can last anywhere from 2 – 3 hours.
- To be eligible for methadone you must be in active opioid withdrawal or test positive for opioids on an onsite urine test.
Buprenorphine (Suboxone®) Intake Hours
- Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am – 8:00 am.
No appointment necessary. - Daily intakes are limited so please arrive by 5:30 am.
- The intake process can last anywhere from 2 – 5 hours.
- To be eligible for buprenorphine you must be in active opioid withdrawal.

Opioid Treatment
Opioid Treatment Program
Our outpatient opioid treatment program provides Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (M.O.U.D) Treatment using FDA-approved medications: methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone®).
Short and long-term opioid detoxification and maintenance are offered to patients with a primary addiction to heroin or other opioids.
Individual and Group
Individual, Group Counseling and Psychotherapy
All patients in treatment have a full range of medical and counseling services included in their individualized treatment plan. Programs are offered to help our patients with tobacco use disorder and HCV disease.
Educational and support groups offered include: parenting, gender specific counseling, peer support, relapse prevention, and relaxation techniques.
Co-Occuring Disorders
Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders
All patients will be screened for mental health issues/needs at intake and throughout treatment using appropriate screening tools.
Patients with mental health needs will be referred to a mental health practitioner for evaluation and treatment, if appropriate.
When indicated, medication for co-occurring disorders are prescribed by the medical director. Psychotherapy services are provided by a licensed therapist.
Maternal Wrap Around Program (MWRAP)
Maternal Wrap Around Program (MWRAP)
This program is open to any pregnant woman with any Substance Use Disorder.
The MWRAP program offers comprehensive case management services and recovery support services. A comprehensive Case Management Assessment is developed that addresses life domains such as housing, finances, transportation, legal services, vocational, employment, health care and family strengths/needs.
Nurse Care Management
Nurse Care Management
This program provides support to patients to improve their overall health and well-being through integration of their medical healthcare and behavioral healthcare plans.
The Nurse Care Management team assists patients with referrals to appropriate medical care, health education, health care plans, medical screenings, and health coaching.
HIV Services
Mobile Medical Unit
Mobile Medical Unit – Project 1st Stop

Project 1st STOP is JSAS HealthCare’s Mobile Medical Unit initiative, delivering life-saving services directly to Monmouth and Ocean County communities. This mobile outreach program brings critical support to individuals who may face barriers to traditional care.
Services include:
- Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), including methadone and buprenorphine
- Overdose prevention education and naloxone distribution
- Referrals and support for ongoing treatment and recovery
- Assessments, Admissions, and Counseling
The unit operates Monday through Friday at community partner locations. By meeting individuals where they are, Project 1st STOP helps close gaps in care and brings hope and healing to those in need.

Guidelines for Referring and Transferring Patients

Guest Medication
JSAS HealthCare, Inc. will provide guest medication to patients enrolled in other OTP’s.
Guest medication for weekdays should be made as early as possible. Guest medication arrangements for weekends, Memorial Day through Labor Day, must be made by 12:00 noon, Thursday prior to the requested weekend. Exceptions will be made in cases of emergency. A patient may be guest medicated for two weeks. The patient’s home clinic may request a two-week extension.
Except in emergency situations and for Sunday closing, guest medication patients do not receive take-home bottles, even if they receive them from their home clinic. The fee for guest medication is $20.00 per day. Personal checks are not accepted for guest medication.

Patient Transfers
JSAS HealthCare, Inc. will accept patients as transfers for methadone and buprenorphine.
